Microblading Aftercare: How to Maintain Your New Brows
You've invested in beautifully microbladed brows, and now it's time to take care of them to ensure they heal perfectly and retain their color and shape. Microblading aftercare is essential in the weeks following your appointment. Here's a guide on what to do—and what not to do—to protect your new brows and get the best possible results.
1. Follow the No-Touch Rule
- In the days after microblading, it's tempting to touch or examine your brows, but resist the urge! Your skin is healing, and touching your brows can transfer bacteria and potentially lead to infection. Keep hands off, and let them heal naturally.
2. Keep Brows Dry for the First 10 Days
- Avoid getting your brows wet, as water can interfere with pigment retention and may cause uneven results. When washing your face, use a washcloth or cleansing wipes around the brows. If you need to shower, try keeping your face out of the direct water stream and use a clean, dry cloth to pat around the area.
3. Avoid Sweating and Intense Workouts
- Sweat can carry salt and oils that might impact pigment retention. Avoid intense workouts, saunas, or any other activities that lead to sweating in the first week or two. Once your brows have healed, you can resume all your normal activities without worry.
4. No Makeup or Skincare Products Near the Brows
- During the healing period, avoid applying makeup or skincare products (especially products with active ingredients) near the brow area. This includes foundation, powders, and any cleansers or serums containing retinoids, acids, or exfoliants. Keeping the area clear allows it to heal properly and prevents any irritation or premature fading.
5. Moisturize Sparingly
- I'll provide a healing balm or ointment to apply to your brows. Use it sparingly, as applying too much can suffocate the skin and affect the healing process. A thin layer once or twice a day is usually enough to keep the area moisturized and protected.
6. Allow Natural Flaking and Scabbing
- In the first two weeks, your brows will naturally begin to flake and form small scabs. Do not pick, scratch, or peel the scabs, as this can pull pigment from the skin and lead to patchy results. Allowing the scabs to fall off on their own will result in the best pigment retention.
7. Avoid Sun Exposure
- Sun exposure can cause pigment to fade faster, so avoid direct sunlight on your brows during the initial healing period. If you must go outside, wear a hat with a brim to protect your brows, as sunscreen should be avoided until the area is fully healed.
8. Be Patient and Follow Up
- Microblading is a process, and your brows will go through stages of color changes and texture adjustments as they heal. I'll see you for a follow-up appointment around 6 to 12 weeks after your initial session to make any touch-ups and perfect your final look. Trust the process, and you'll be rewarded with beautiful brows that last.
